Irish Bishop Speaks out in Support of Women’s Ordination
Ingrid Shafer February 2002
According to an article* by  Fergus Black in the online edition of the Irish Independent, Saturday, February 16th, 2002, the Bishop of Killaloe, Dr Willie Walsh, was quoted in The Guardian, a regional newspaper, “that he had no difficulty with the concept of women priests ‘if the Pope and the Church generally changed its mind.’” Black writes that Bishop Walsh “felt the Roman Catholic Church has ‘missed out on a  significant input’ by excluding women from the priesthood.”  Walsh, however, is pessimistic concerning the chances of women being ordained soon, noting, “I would have to  honestly say that I do not see it happening in my time. Who knows where the spirit  will lead us in the new millennium.”
